At the end of the month a Forum on Food Sovereignty will be organized in Paraguay by the Latin American Coordinator of Coutryside Organizations (CLOC) Via Campesina, in order to identify existing threats to food sovereignty.
We interviewed Conamuri representative Alicia Amarilla about it.
Nearly 150 participants of CLOC/Via Campesina and national organizations will attend the event, as well as students of the Latin American Agroecology Institute, IALA Guarani. Alicia said there are many large-scale mining projects in her country and stressed there is no actual defense of the interests of peasant peoples by Fernando Lugo’s administration.
The aim of the event is to continue debating on Food Sovereignty in panels about risks and threats to the administration of goods and natural resources and other issues related with seeds, threats to rural populations, environmental standards, water, open-pit mining, militarization and criminalization of the struggle.
The Campaign for Food Sovereignty will be launched at the forum. The campaign aims to promote the participaiton of urban and rural communties in the efforts to recover and promote food sovereignty.
The Forum will be held from August 28 to September 1.
