This week, as a response to the controversial public statements by Serra, the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) issued a press release claiming that Serra´s candidacy, and the “conservative coalition” supporting it, are symbols of a “step back” in social terms.

According to the MST, the repressive policies implemented against social organizations in Sao Paulo State, ruled by Serra since 2006, are proof of this.

The MST considers the right-wing candidate, the only one with real possibilities to challenge Dilma Rousseff´s candidacy (from the Workers´ Party in office), represents the interest of “agribusiness and transnational corporations”.

This model, according to the organization, has not been a solution for landless families and does not ensure the provision of healthy food for the population.

Serra is trying to create an atmosphere of “electoral terrorism” through threats, and is using this

strategy because he doesn´t have a political project to ensure a dignified life for rural and urban workers, according to the MST.

During the past few weeks, the right-wing candidate strongly criticized Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva´s administration, questioning his “flexibility” in terms of the MST´s actions.

Serra even said that the landless workers are supporting Dilma to continue “invading” lands in the next five years.
