Around one thousand representatives of popular organizations of different areas of the country participated in the entire march. They expect to meet members of the Executive Branch, MPs of all parties and representatives of the Judicial Branch.

The activists expect around 10 thousand people to join them in an action in Plaza de la Constitución.

During the mobilization they put on the table a series of specific demands, among them the rejection to metal mining, hydroelectric dams and the violent displacements in the Guatemalan countryside.

“We don’t accept the leftovers of the government, we demand an immediate solution to the historic agrarian conflict”, stated the organizations that called the march, among them the Committee of Peasant Union (CUC).

According to this document issued a few hours ago, the conflict in the Guatemalan countryside can be solved with “political will” and with the approval of the Integral Rural Development Bill which is included in a Bill drafted by the most representative social organizations.

They demand the end of evictions; the respect to the decisions of the native peoples who rejected mining exploitation in several community
consultations, hydroelectric dams and other megaprojects.

“Our struggle is legitimate and we don’t want fertilizers or quick-fixes. We demand a solution to our demands. Because when we mobilize, the powers tremble!", concluded the Guatemalan groups.
