Berta Oliva, member of the committee of Relatives of Detained and Disappeared of Honduras (COFADEH) claims that one of the signs of the human rights crisis in Honduras is the situation suffered by the people of
Bajo Aguan who defend their land.

The human rights violations in Honduras, especially in Bajo Aguan, led to the holding of an International Meeting of Solidarity on Friday 17, February with delegates from all over Latin America.

In interview with Real World Radio Salvador Zuñiga, of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH). The solidarity brigades will also visit the areas worst affected by peasant rights violations to verify the situation and do capacity building in the region.

The goal is to “show the coup d’état is still standing in Honduras and it is reflected in all the institutions responsible for worsening state violence. We need to expose human rights violations and strengthen the solidarity links between the peoples of the world”.

They also work on the link between militarization, transnational corporations, the struggle for land and human rights violations in the region and the country.
