On Wednesday, like many other times since the coup d´etat took democracy away, the Honduran people will go to the streets of Tegucigalpa. But this time, they will do so to say goodbye to ousted president Manuel Zelaya, who will leave the country today on his way to Dominican Republic.
Peasant leader Rafael Alegría announced the mobilization and said that although the resistance has not been able to return Zelaya to office, the Honduran people will continue demonstrating.
After being ousted, Zelaya had managed to enter Honduras in September, and had been staying at the Brazilian Embassy. Porfirio Lobo, who will take office today after illegitimate elections according to the Honduran resistance and most of the international community, said he will go to the embassy to accompany Zelaya on his way to the international airport.
According to Lobo, Dominican Republic President, Leonel Fernandez, and Guatemalan President, Alvaro Colom, will also be part of the delegation that will join Zelaya.
In a press conference, Lobo talked about his plans to make his administration be recognized at international level.
According to the Honduran resistance, the fact that Lobo is Head of State is nothing else than the continuation of the democratic disruption led by Roberto Micheletti. This is what activist Lorena Zelaya said from the World Social Forum which is being carried out in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
