In Haiti, and as a consequence of the earthquake that hit the country last January, every day around 1.5 million people wander around the streets of Port au Prince, the capital city of the country, to look for food and medical care.

In addition, it is estimated that around 200 thousand Haitians don’t even have a tent, or a piece of fabric to use to keep them warm, and only 4.5 % of the temporary shelters planned after the tragedy were built, according to Adital news agency.

“There are over two million people in Haiti vulnerable to malnutrition”, said the social organizations, that carried out a Day of Solidarity with Haiti on October 15th.

This initiative was promoted by Jubilee South Americas, in the framework of the “Global Week of action against debt and international financial institutions”

“Today, the Haitian people needs international solidarity due to the consequences of the earthquake and also to stop military intervention”, said Doudou Pierre, leader of the National Peasant Movement of the Papaye Congress, member of La Via Campesina International.
