The former Honduran President, Manuel Zelaya, accepted the offer to become the general coordinator of the National Front of Popular Resistance (FNRP) “without reservations”. He took the commitment so that the murders committed by those responsible for the coup d’etat that ousted him in June 2009, will not go unpunished.
“Together, we will build a new Constitution and we will create the National Constituent Assembly”, said Zelaya in an open letter written from Dominican Republic, which was made public on July 12.
In the letter, the ousted president says he aims to strengthen the FNRP as a valid tool to confront “the historical moment experienced by all the Hondurans”. “I have never needed any position to stand for the poor and for the Honduran people, and I would like to make it clear that all of this time of hard work and tragedy I have never asked for a position to support the Front”, says Zelaya.
The new general coordinator of the Front of Resistance describes himself as “democratic, an advocate of the just, human and peaceful causes”, who has confronted “the oligarchy and the US without fear”. In his letter of acceptance he says “I risked my life many times and I am willing to do it again at the request of the Front”.
Then he calls his “Anti-Coup, Liberal Party in Resistance” to not “have its hands tainted with blood with the tyrant” Roberto Micheletti.
Last week, Zelaya was interviewed by Radio Guiniguada radio station in the Dominican Republic. He was firm when saying that the US corporations have benefited the most from the coup d’etat.
